Clarification

I had a great request to clarify what I meant in yesterday’s entry about where I said my goal wasn’t to convert or be converted.  Here’s what I meant by that.

While I would love to use my blog as a tool that would allow us to engage in online conversations, the demands of my daily schedule often don’t allow me the time to do that.  My hope in putting some of my thoughts down is that they might be used to spark and/or provoke reflections within and between others.

As I’ve learned in my first 12 years of ministry, there is certainly a HUGE risk in finding the courage to put one’s thoughts out there.  Some interpret those efforts as attempts to enforce or inflict one’s opinion on others.  Others feel compelled to rip apart the remarks in order to make their points.  I find neither or these options satisfying.

It seems that we are stuck in a time where most folks think those are the only two options available to us: hence, we have a world that is wracked by verbal, physical, and spiritual violence by folks.

I hope to use my blog to pursue another option – as an tool to prompt further thought and reflection on both my part and my readers.

I look forward to sparking and/or provoking thoughts as each of us continue to grow and evolve on our spiritual journeys.

About Pastor Craig

I'm a 53-year-old who lives in Los Angeles, CA with his black Labrador Retriever named Max. I'm an ordained clergy person in the United Church of Christ. My passions include spirituality, politics, and sports (Go Houston teams, go!). I use my blog to start conversations rather than merely spout my perspectives and opinions. I hope you'll post a question, comment, or observation for me to respond - so we can get the conversation started!
